Fossil shrimp Solnhofen Age (150 Million years)
In stock
This stunning Aeger shrimp fossil, preserved in fine Solnhofen limestone, is a striking reminder of the marine life that thrived during the Jurassic period. Measuring approximately 12–13 cm in body length with elegantly arched antennae stretching even farther, this piece captivates with its sheer presence and delicate detail. The reddish-brown coloration and crisp segmentation are a result of natural mineralization, a signature of the Solnhofen formation’s exceptional preservation conditions.
What makes this specimen truly special is not just its size, but the incredible definition of its legs, pleopods, and carapace. Some minor restoration work has been done on the antennae, as is typical for such fragile structures, but the result is a remarkably complete and visually balanced display. Solnhofen fossils like this one come from ancient lagoon beds where oxygen-depleted, fine-grain sediment settled gently over sea life, preventing decay and creating some of the most detailed fossils ever discovered.
