(113 – 100 million years)
In stock
A member of the extinct cephalopod class, this Ammonite was found in Madagascar and showcases the remarkable natural artistry of these ancient marine creatures. The fossil features a well-preserved spiral shell, with intricate patterns that reveal the internal chambers.
What makes this specimen truly unique is its composition, it is a cluster of multiple Cleoniceras ammonites, each showcasing a brilliant iridescent sheen that shimmers with a rainbow of colors. This captivating effect is a natural phenomenon where the original shell material, known as nacre (or mother of pearl), has been mineralized into an element called aragonite. Over millions of years, the structure of the aragonite layers diffracted light, creating the vibrant, shifting colors you see today.
This piece measures approximately 9 cm in height and is at least 15 cm wide.
