This beautifully preserved specimen belongs to the extinct genus Aeger, a type of prawn-like crustacean that thrived in shallow marine environments during the Late Jurassic. As part of the order Dendrobranchiata, Aeger is an ancient relative of modern-day prawns and shrimps, characterized by its feathery gill structures (hence the name “dendro”—tree, “branchia”—gill).

What makes this piece especially valuable is its origin: the Solnhofen Limestone, one of the world’s most iconic fossil deposits. The Aegeridae family is now extinct, making these fossils essential in tracing the evolutionary lineage of modern crustaceans.
